PARK LIFE at SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS
October 1, 2008 – 7:25 am
I have something in this show, check it out this weekend!
PARK LIFE
CURATED BY STUDIO NUMBER ONE
EXHIBITION DATES:
OCTOBER 4TH - OCTOBER 31ST
OPENING RECEPTION:
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, 8-11PM
Park Life is a series of exhibitions organized and curated by Studio Number One. Amidst a neighborhood defined by fluid and fixed identities and a creative crossroads of art, design, popular culture and technology, Park Life asks the question,
“What defines a community?”.
SNO, Subliminal Projects and Obey FIne Art moved to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in early 2008. As transplants we continue to adapt to our new environment, discovering and creating shared points of interest while forming new relationships with local vendors and residents. Fueled by curiosity we are eager to explore, digest and ultimately initiate a dialogue with our new friends and neighbors.
The first installment of Park Life will be a group exhibition, celebrating a diverse network of creative minds whom we like to call family- friends, relatives and fellow creators whom we have met along the way.
The exhibition will include works by: Willem Augustus, Stephen Bliss, Louise Bonnet, Nicholas Bowers, Lorin Brown, Jaspr Byrnes, Josh Cochran, Lane Coder, Jordan Crane, Poppy DeVilleneuve, Amy Jo Diaz, Keetra Dixon, Abbey Drucker, Elliot Earls, Tristan Eaton, Shepard Fairey, Amanda Fairey, Andrew Foster, Gary Garay, Zachary Gibson, Mathew Goldman, Kristian Henson, Dustin Hostetler, Victor Hu, Cody Hudson, Z James, Theo Jemison, Mel Kadel, Jeremy Kaplan, Mekenzie Kay, Chris Kasch, Michael M. Koehler, Curtis Kulig, Philip Lumbang, Blake E. Marquis, Travis Millard, Dan Monick, Jesselisa Moretti, Garrett Morin, Matthew Muller, Mylinh Nguyen, Kyle Oldoerp, Mike Pare, Louisa St. Pierre, Alia Penner, Cleon Peterson, Kill Pixie, Andrew Rae, Luke Ramsey, Jared Purrington, Razauno, Casey Ryder, Diana Scheunemann, Skullphone, Sophinie Som, Joel Speasmaker, Sumi Ink Club, Marissa Textor, Justin Vanhoy, David Whitcraft, Megan Whitmarsh, Ernesto Yerena, Sean Yoon, and Florencio Zavala.

I was given the opportunity to redesign the identity of the UCLA Design|Media Arts Department. With the new logotype, look and feel, came two booklets; Exit Strategies, the 2008 graduate brochure and an MFA Entry Guide, which lists admissions and application information for 2009. The booklets come together in a belly-band. Along with these two booklets was a poster for the 2008-2009 lectures season.

All of this time not posting new entries are for a very good reason, I promise! I’ve moved to Minneapolis and have successfully survived my first week in the Midwest and at the Walker Art Center. There have been tests along the way, one of which was the artery clogging Minnesota State Fair. Chocolate covered bacon? Bacon on a stick? Deep fried candy bars on sticks? Cheese curds? Deep fried pickles filled with cream cheese? My heart did not stop, so I take it as a good sign and am optimistic about my future here. Come visit me!

A PO box in the post office of Elizaville, New York was rented for one year. Twenty artists and one gallery were asked to send in works in either small envelopes or as post-cards. For the entire year these works will be left inside the box and available for viewing. For instructions as to how to open the box, email us your mailing address and we will send you a post-card with what to do. The box will expire in June of 2009.

Work has been consuming me lately. Kristian and I just finished our wall at the Kimski Makes store in Little Tokyo and we’re really happy with how it turned out. The store is really nice so if you’re in that neighborhood, you should visit it! Its located at 369 E 2nd Street.
